Official use of brand marks

Use of Official NHSBBQA® and State HSBBQ Association division Brand Marks

The National High School BBQ Association® (NHSBBQA®) is the national governing body and brand authority for High School and Middle School BBQ programs operating under the NHSBBQA® ecosystem.

All names, logos, trademarks, service marks, event names, slogans, mascots, and associated brand elements of the National High School BBQ Association® (NHSBBQA®)—including but not limited to:

  • National High School BBQ Association®

  • NHSBBQA®

  • THE S.L.A.B. (Students Learning About Barbecue)™ 

  • COME EAT OUR HOMEWORK!®

  • WHERE DREAMS IGNITE!™ 

  • Any national program, league, or division marks

are protected intellectual property of the National High School BBQ Association® (NHSBBQA®).

The [State Name] High School BBQ ™  ([STATE]HSBBQ™  is an officially sanctioned division of the National High School BBQ Association® (NHSBBQA®).

All names, logos, trademarks, service marks, event names, and associated brand elements used by the [STATE]HSBBQ®—including any reference to High School BBQ, HSBBQ, or related branding relevant to High School BBQ Association(s)—are protected intellectual property and are used under license from the National High School BBQ Association® (NHSBBQA®).

Any individual, school, organization, sponsor, media outlet, or third party wishing to use any [STATE]HSBBQ™ brand mark must receive prior written permission before use for any purpose, including but not limited to:

  • Marketing and promotional materials

  • Educational and school-based content

  • Event advertising and sponsorship activation

  • Broadcast, streaming, or media coverage

  • Digital, social media, print, or merchandise use

Permission Requests

All brand usage requests must be submitted in advance to:

Principal@HSBBQ.org

Requests must include:

  • The specific State HSBBQ™ brand mark requested (e.g., TXHSBBQ™ ,KSHSBBQ ™ )

  • The intended use and context

  • The platform or application (print, digital, broadcast, merchandise, etc.)

  • The length of time the brand mark will be used

  • The requesting organization or individual

Approval & Brand Standards

Approved requests will receive:

  • Official digital files of the approved [STATE]HSBBQ® brand mark(s)

  • A formal Letter of Permission

  • The NHSBBQA® Brand Standards & Usage Guidelines, which apply to all state divisions

All approved uses must follow the provided brand standards without alteration.
Modification, distortion, or unauthorized use of any State HSBBQ™ or NHSBBQA® brand mark is strictly prohibited.

Enforcement & Protection

Unauthorized use of State HSBBQ™ or NHSBBQA® brand marks—whether intentional or accidental—may result in enforcement action under applicable federal and state trademark and unfair competition laws, including the Lanham Act.

How to Request Permission

The National High School BBQ Association® and its State HSBBQ™  are proud to support schools, educators, students, sponsors, and community partners who help grow America’s CTE Food Sport.

If you would like to use a State HSBBQ™  NHSBBQA® brand mark, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Email your request to Principal@HSBBQ.org

  2. Include:

    • Your name and organization

    • The state association (if applicable)

    • A brief description of how the brand mark will be used

    • Where the mark will appear (website, flyer, social media, video, etc.)

    • The start and end date for usage

  3. Our team will review your request and respond with:

    • Approval or clarification questions

    • Official brand files

    • A Letter of Permission

    • Brand standards to ensure consistent and proper use

Requests are typically reviewed promptly. We appreciate your help in protecting the integrity of our students, schools, educators, and the NHSBBQA® brand nationwide.

Official Notice

The National High School BBQ Association® (NHSBBQA®) serves as the sole national brand authority for all affiliated State High School BBQ Associations®. Use of NHSBBQA® and State HSBBQ™ brand marks signifies participation in and alignment with the official NHSBBQA® ecosystem.




Students learn problem solving skills, goal setting, team work, cooking, creativity, and collaboration while practicing and competing as they develop their plan and outcomes. Weather it is at school, our virtual Project Baste Learning competition online each year, or State and National events SMOKE GOALS create Champions in life, school, and competition.

Specific –  (simple, sensible, significant).

Measurable – (meaningful, motivating).

Objectives – (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).

Knowledge attained – (agreed, attainable).

Educational Outcomes(time-based, time limited, and desired learning and evaluation).
